Gam zeh ya'avor

Means "This too shall pass" in Hebrew.

When life is really good, enjoy it, 'cause it will suck again soon. Also means, when life is horrible, don't give up, 'cause it'll get really great again soon.

To the moon Alice!

Reading The Great Bridge by David McCullough.

We think of it as a cool place to visit when we're in NYC. Apparently, successfully building this was, at the time, about as complicated as going to the moon.

Here's my view from 2003:

Baseball is like Gefilte Fish

Watched your Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres last night in 13 innings to make it to the playoffs for the first time in 12 years. Very exciting.

Got me thinking how baseball is like gefilte fish. For those of you who don’t know, gefilte fish is Jewish delicacy made from ground up fish and…well…other stuff. It’s basically fish pâté preserved in gelatin.

Just about the most unappetizing stuff you’ll ever run into outside of a third world country unless you grew up with it. If you started eating it before the age of 6, gefilte fish is a yummy treat. It’s a comfort food and part of your identity.

Baseball is the same kind of thing. It’s mental comfort food for those who GET IT. Us Colorado residents didn’t get a team until I was 21, so while I appreciate and understand baseball, I don’t GET IT. I didn't make "Baseball Fan" part of my list of things about myself when I was growing up.

Only time I can sit down and enjoy watching a game is in the playoffs when everything is on the line.

Don't think Meat. Just throw.

I think the reason I don't post more often is that...well...I feel like I have nothing EXTRAORDINARY to say. Somehow, I need to have some INSIGHT before I should take another tiny piece of Google's server space. Then I remembered this quote from Martha Graham:

"There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it.

It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open.

No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is on a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others."

Ain't that cool? It's chock full of all sorts of tasty wisdom. The main point I get from it is the same lesson Crash was trying to teach Nuke in Bull Durham. The more you think and plan and consider, the less likely you are to act natural and hit your target.

So just throw it all out there, know that even when it's crap, you at least gave it a shot, and each time you try the more likely you are to bullseye the target.
